Lead howler of the Werewolf Tones Bobby Warshaw

What-o all you folking folksters out there! Have you been feeling pangs of envy directed at the indie crowd and the wide selection of events catered towards their uncultured tastes this summer? Well resent no longer because your discerning aural palette will be satiated next week when tickets for the CúcuLand festival go on sale!

CúcuLand is a one-day event that will go ahead in Killhoe, Co. Leeshford on the first full moon of Lughnasadh (August). It was founded last year by Liam O’Muckríagh (lead singer with Gael-rockers the Workhorse Towers) and was so successful they’ve decided to make it an annual event.

Be warned – tickets cannot be acquired with paper currency, instead they will be given out in exchange for farm animals or sacks of grain that will be donated to charities helping to ease the ongoing famine currently devasting the Galwegian subcontinent.

Unlike last summer when it was held in a converted peat bog, this time round a giant 20,000 capacity crannóg has been especially constructed to prevent festival-goers from being exposed to the elements. The fact that that half the attendees died of exposure in the aftermath of last year’s event kinda put a dampner (literally) on what was otherwise a fantastic fest.

Security will be provided by local members of the caravan-dwelling community, so don’t worry about leaving your belongings in the nearby camp site, they’ll be perfectly safe with those lads on the prowl.

Scheduled to perform are Ireland’s uimhir a haon scary patriot rockers The Werewolf Tones (whose inflammatory anthem A Nationalist Once Again somehow made it to the top of an online BBC movie poll despite it being a song) If they start urging the crowd to participate in an aftershow invasion of “the occupied six counties” just ignore them – the career of the unfortunate bowsies has gone down the tubes ever since peace was achieved on the island.

Also making an appearance is trad legend Lisa Liffey. Let’s hope she’s teaming up with local hero Monday for a rendition of their number one hit collaboration Corkonian Cailín. And before Liam and the lads finish off the night we’ll be treated to football-song tribute band Jackie Charlton and the Bluebottles, doubtless still plugging their A Record Of Two Halves album twenty years after its release – Yewp!

Concert holders please note, at the organisers’ request the Brehon Laws will apply on the venue grounds for the duration of the show, as is stated on the ticket. So don’t forget to bring a cudgel – and don’t let your wife out of your sight!
