Nader Yet To Decide On Another Fruitless Presidential Bid

Political activist Ralph Nader has said he has yet to decide whether he will make another failed bid for the White House this coming November.

Speaking to US public radio station Democracy Where? the four-time defeated presidential candidate said he would make his decision on going for a fifth futile effort “next month sometime.”

“What I’m deciding on at the moment is whether I can get enough finance, enough volunteers and enough blind enthusiasm to run another non-starter campaign,” he said.

“You know, finding people who will campaign for me on the ground is pretty tough,” he continued. “Not only do they have to be deluded enough to believe I can win, but they also have to be brave in the face of hostility from Republicans who believe we’re a bunch of wet-blanket hippy types, and also from Democrats who still scapegoat me for Gore’s defeat to George Bush in 2000.

“The truth is they messed up that campaign themselves pretty well without any help from me. Pity for them that Al Gore only decided to grow a set of balls after the election.”

Mr Nader was a prominent environmental and consumer rights advocate in the US before embarking on his political wild goose chase. He ran for office as an independent no-hoper in 1992 and 2004, while in the elections of 1996 and 2000 he vainly stood as the Green Party’s candidate.

However, Mr Nader is unlikely to receive any unsolicited funding from Republicans if he stands this time round, as most political analysts foresee a comfortable margin of victory for the eventual Democratic nominee.

If this prediction proves correct, then it would be unlikely that Nader’s still-born bid will enough to split the Democratic vote to the Republicans’ advantage.

Meanwhile, the three potential Democrat nominees, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John whatshisname took part in a televised debate earlier this week, in which front runners Clinton and Obama both descended to negative tactics by bitterly accusing the other of descending to negative tactics.

TV comedian and committed Democrat Frank Allan was present as the debate was recorded: “It got quite acrimonious between the two, I must admit. But whoever wins, I hope there’s no residual bitterness, ‘cos all Democrats would like to see the eventual winner take the other on as his or her running mate. Whether it’s Obama for President with as Clinton VP or vise versa – either way it’s gonna be the PC brigade’s wet dream ticket!”
